Tennessee's Economic Community Development Director Bill Hagerty gave a bright business future for this area to the Murfreesboro Rotary Club on Tuesday (4/22/2014).

He noted that last year the Volunteer State was named the most fiscally responsible in the nation. Hagerty said this gets the attention of corporate heads when he talks with them about moving their operations here. Another positive statistic is that Tennessee has the lowest debt per capita in the nation.

In addition, Governor Haslam's Drive To 55 campaign would offer new high school grads in Tennessee two-years free tuition to attend state community colleges or technical schools. It was approved 87 - 8 by the State House, and 30 - 1 in the Senate. Reports indicate it will begin in 2015. The goal is to improve this state's graduation rates from the current 32 percent to 55 percent by 2025. It would also help to improve overall job qualifications and attract employers to the state.

Hagerty noted this is what prospective corporate leaders like to know when deciding whether to invest in Tennessee or elsewhere.

ECD Director Hagerty told WGNS News . . .

Tennessee is also developing a strong network to help entrepreneurs. Regional Economic and Community Development Regional Director Reggie Mudd was also at the Rotary Club. He explained how local programs help entrepreneurs . . .

Mudd is in charge of economic and community development in the 13 northern counties of Middle Tennessee, which includes Rutherford.

Mudd is the primary contact for businesses in this area who are seeking state assistance with expansion or or with accessing state services.
