Political: Local woman seeks election to 14th District Republican Party State Executive seat

Local resident JoAnne Skidmore has announced her intentions to seek election to the 14th District Republican Party State Executive Committeewoman seat for the Tennessee Republican Party. This is an open seat serving Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall, Moore and parts of Rutherford County. The 14th District is the new district serving what was formally the 16th district, which has been held by the Hon. Barbara Blanton of Shelbyville. Mrs. Blanton is not seeking re-election.

You may recall that in September of 2013, Skidmore announced her run for the 15th District Rutherford County Commission seat currently held by Adam Coggin. She is still running for that seat. Commissioner Coggin is running for State Representative in the 48th District. Representative Carr, who is presently over the 48th District, is running for the congressional seat currently held by Senator Lamar Alexander.

Small business owner, JoAnne Skidmore officially announced this morning that she will seek election to the 14th District Republican Party State Executive Committeewoman seat for the Tennessee Republican Party. This is an open seat serving Bedford, Lincoln, Marshall, Moore and parts of Rutherford County. The 14th District is the new district serving what was formally the 16th district, which has been held by the Hon. Barbara Blanton of Shelbyville. Mrs. Blanton is not seeking re-election.

Skidmore announced back in September her bid for the 15th District Rutherford County Commission seat, and is on the May 6th Republican Primary ballot. Early voting began April 16th and will conclude May 1st.

“I’ve been a lifelong Republican, and I’ve always been proud to serve in whatever capacity has been helpful to my party to ensure we recruit, campaign, and elect conservative citizens with strong leadership skills, who embrace our conservative values and Republican Principles.” Skidmore said.

Skidmore is a self-employed strategist and consults small businesses with an emphasis on physicians and medical practices. She has previously served as the Clinical Director and Continuing Education Coordinator for Wang Vision Institute, and as Co-Founder of the Laser MedSpa at WVI. She is a graduate of Riverdale High School, and attended Middle Tennessee State University. She holds several certifications specializing in lasers in medicine, and has held membership in the American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives, American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery, and Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. She has held her licensure in insurance since 1992. She is also a REALTOR, licensed since 1999. She is affiliated with Coldwell Banker Barnes, Snow & Wall. Her real estate practice specializes in assisting clients with their entire real estate portfolio, matching them with residential solutions that complement their lifestyle and helping their business
entities to achieve strategic business objectives through real estate.

While Skidmore has worked tirelessly in various capacities on local, state and national campaigns, she has formalized her role in a leadership capacity in recent times. She serves as Chairman of the Literacy Committee for the Republican Women of Rutherford County and served as a delegate to the 2013 Tennessee Federation of Republican Women Convention. She is the former Executive Director of the Republican Party of Rutherford County and is the newly elected Vice-Treasurer. She serves on various committees within the local party and is the former Chairman of the Fundraising and Membership Committee.

She volunteers as a parent at John Pittard Elementary. She has coached soccer for the Murfreesboro soccer club and is a Girl Scout. She has also served as a Girl Scout Leader, she is a previous First Place winner of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society “Man & Woman of the Year award”, and a National Partner of Women Impacting Public Policy. She serves as a Special Assistant to the founder of the Music City Festival and BBQ Championship, which is a 501(c)3 annual event benefitting the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project.

JoAnne has four children. Wilkes and Christian are both graduates of Middle Tennessee Christian School. Her son Wilkes, is currently serving full-time in the United States Army, her son Christian is a student at MTSU. Jane and Stephen are students at John Pittard Elementary.

Skidmore is slated to be on the August 7th ballot as a candidate for the SEC 14th District.
