Have you ever cleaned a creek before? Now is your chance!

Like most waterways, litter washes into Hurricane Creek throughout the year. On Friday, May 2 starting at 9:00 a.m., LaVergne is gathering workers and volunteers at 9:00 a.m. to clean the creek near the Bridgestone plant.

“We are going to clean about a half mile stretch,” said Kenneth Perkins, Project Engineer for Stormwater. “We are planning to fill about 100 bags with debris and trash. We are removing this garbage before it flows into Percy Priest Lake.”

If you would like to volunteer to help, meet at 1224 Heil Quaker Blvd. at the very back of the ProLogis Bldg. (SVP Building). Dress appropriately for the event by wearing long sleeve shirts and boots. The Stormwater Department is providing gloves, some spike sticks, and a limited number of boots for volunteers to use during the clean up. Volunteers from Bridgestone and the Tennessee Environmental Council have been confirmed.

Lunch will be provided after the work is complete. For more information, contact the La Vergne Stormwater Department at 287-8658.
