Another Great International FolkFest!

The week long 2014 International FolkFest enjoyed another successful record year as this positive event continued to bring cultures together. The event ended Saturday (6/14/2014) with performances in front of the historic Rutherford County Courthouse and then an evening finale in Bell Buckle.

WGNS' Bart Walker was there (6-minute feature) . . .

Czech Ambassador Here

Czech Ambassador Petr Gandalovi? and his wife Pavlína were here from the Czech Embassy in Washington. He was presented a key to the city of Murfreesboro and the first lady was given a traditional southern bonnet.

When asked what stood out in his mind as he traveled around Murfreesboro, Gandalovi? surprised us with the response: "You have so many barber shops here. Is there a reason for that?"

He and his wife were both very cordial, and seemed to enjoy the giant shade trees in front of the courthouse as the mercury slipped into the 80s.

The downtown area was alive with sound as well as farm fresh produce and vegetables. In addition to the FolkFest on the east side of the square, the north, south and west sides hosted the weekly Saturday Marketplace. Main Street Murfreesboro/Rutherford County hosts the popular farmer's market type atmosphere every Saturday morning from 8:00AM to noon.

Cripple Creek Cloggers UK Bound

Steve Cates told WGNS that the Cripple Creek Cloggers are packing for a trip to the United Kingdom next month. They have everything but a great blue grass band. If you know of one that would enjoy performing in England, contact Cates at 615-896-3559 or e-mail him at appdancer@aol.com
