Bill Shacklett, owner of Shacklett's Photography, Announces his run for Murfreesboro City Council

Local businessman, Bill Shacklett, owner of Shacklett's Photography is announcing his candidacy for the Murfreesboro City Council seat vacated by Toby Gilley who won the General Sessions Judge election in August. Previously, Bill was a member of the Murfreesboro City Council from 2002-2006. While on the City Council, Bill was a liaison to the Murfreesboro City School Board and a member of the Murfreesboro Recreation Commission.

During Bill's tenure on Council, he earned the Bronze Award for Leadership in 2005 by the National League of Cities Institute and was a regular delegate to the Tennessee Municipal League, as well as a negotiating team member for the Conference Center.

His community involvement includes Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce , Board of Directors for American Red Cross (Past Chairman), Main Street Revitalization Project (Past Chairman), Downtown Murfreesboro Business Association (Present Co-Chair), Read to Succeed (Past Chair), Uncle Dave Macon Days, Optimist Club (Past President), Past President PTO for Mitchell-Neilson Primary and Cason Lane Academy). He has coached Little League Baseball for 39 years.

He enjoys being involved with a variety of projects that serve young people and better our community.

Shacklett's business has been recognized with awards from the Better Business Bureau, Main Street Project and the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce as their 2008 Business Person of the Year. Bill graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1973 with a B.S. in Urban Planning.

Bill and his wife of 35 years, Rita, have two grown daughters, Emily (married to Drew Wilmesherr) and Katie.
