The final AARP Safe Driving class for 2014 that's taught at Murfreesboro's St. Clair Street Senior Center is scheduled 8:30AM-12:30PM on Monday and Tuesday mornings, September 29th and 30th.

Longtime local AARP leader Bob Parades will be the instructor. The cost for the two-day class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.

Parades noted, "Upon completion of the class, each participant will receive a three-year discount on their auto insurance. If you took the class three-years ago, you need to take the class again to continue receiving the insurance discount."

Cars have changed. So have traffic rules, driving conditions and the roads you travel every day.

Some drivers age 50-plus have never looked back since they got their first driver's license, but even the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up on their driving skills.

Older drivers are often the safest drivers in that they are more likely to wear their seatbelts, and less likely to speed or drink and drive. However, older drivers are more likely to be killed or seriously injured when a crash does occur due to the greater fragility of their aging bodies.

Driver safety programs improve adult driver safety by addressing cognitive abilities and skills, however, older drivers can also improve their safety by ensuring their cars are properly adjusted for them. A proper fit in one's car can greatly increase not only the driver's safety but also the safety of others.
