Political Forum Dealing With Elder Issues

The senior population is growing, and there will be a political forum dealing with issues of the elderly at 10:00 o'clock Friday morning, October 10th, at the St. Clair Street Senior Center (325 St. Clair Street). The event features the seven opposed and unopposed Rutherford County candidates for the 109th Tennessee General Assembly. Former State Representative John Hood will be the moderator.

Questions to the candidates will relate to the State's aging population, services provided and the growing gap between needs and resources in Tennessee. This is a subject that should be of interest to all residents as we face aging issues not only for our parents but ourselves. Also, as potential caregivers what resources will be available in Tennessee to serve and protect one of our most vulnerable populations. The forum is open to the public.

The Administration on Aging of the Department of Health & Human Services projects the over 65 population in Tennessee in 2015 will be 1,362,111. However, the Greater Nashville Regional Council figures updated 1/16/14 are already over 1,722,648 for just the 9-County area covered by the GNRC!

The following candidates have been invited to participate: Bill Ketron, Senate District 13; Rick Womick, House District 34; Dawn White, House District 37; House District 48, Bryan Terry and William (Bill) Campbell; House District 49, Mike Sparks and Mike Williams.
