Nearly 28% Voter Turnout in RuCo

Nov 05, 2014 at 12:41 am by Bryan Barrett

It was a busy first election for newly appointed Rutherford County Election Administrator Alan Farley. The county saw 57,609 people cast ballots, which is nearly 28-percent voter turnout. Farley tells NewsRadio WGNS it was a busy election day...

The release of early voting numbers was actually delayed about 30-minutes, as Election Commission Chairman Ransom Jones says many people were still standing in line to vote at 7pm...

Farley, who is no stranger to politics, commented he doesn't recall an election day with so many people remaining in line after the polls closed. Precinct votes were also late coming in, as the computer system doesn't allow the release until provisional votes are counted. Those votes are for those voters who are not listed at the various precincts, but they claim to have registered to vote.

There will not be an election in 2015. But Farley says his office will be busy...

Again, the next time voters will go to the polls will be May of 2016 in the state presidential primary.
