The MTSU Department of Art's Todd Art Gallery announces that the creations of community artist Joyce Cummings will be displayed at the Rutherford County Property Assessor's office from 3:00 to 4:00 Friday afternoon, January 30th. Joyce's art along with art from MTSU students will remain on display through mid-March.
Those students participating in the ongoing Fall/Winter Exhibition 2014-15 include: Kandace Lovett, Holly Hagan, Chloe Campbell, Kari Owen, Erin Potter, Kyle Baker, Jenn Tipton, Monica Kay, Katie Mullins, and Sarah Al-Ansari. MTSU work ranges from Renaissance influenced paintings to Abstract Expressionism, Still Life, Color Study and Printmaking.
Artist Joyce Cummings whose work will be featured in one of the two gallery's antechambers has resided in Murfreesboro since 2004 having been born in Virginia and reared in West Virginia. After earning her bachelor degree from West Virginia University Joyce came to Tennessee to pursue and complete her master's degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University.
As an artist Cummings states her goals as a painter as, "...being able to create an image that is pleasing, memorable, and endearing to the viewer." She is also quite versatile in her skills and often works outside of the typical oil and acrylics and frequently uses material other than canvas on which to paint.
The Murfree Art Gallery is a collaboration of Property Assessor Rob Mitchell and the MTSU Department of Art. All exhibits are free and open to the public. Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. and is located on the second floor of the Rutherford County Office Building located at 319 North Maple Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37130.
