Are You Ready for NFL FOOTBALL?

Are you ready for some football?

NFL Owners voted overwhelmingly Thursday to approve a tentative agreement that will end the league’s four-month lockout and establish a new 10-year collective bargaining agreement.  The owners voted 31-0, with the Oakland Raiders abstaining.

The agreement is contingent on the NFL players voting to re-certify their union and approve the proposal.  Many thought the players would take a vote Thursday, but that didn't happen.

If the players approve the agreement by Friday, voluntary workouts at team facilities could begin as early as Saturday, and the new league year would begin on Wednesday with the opening of training camps and free agency.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday acknowledged the need to get the approval process completed quickly at a press conference in Atlanta, stating, “There’s a sense of urgency to this.  We want to have a full 2011 season that includes the four preseason games and we’re up against the wall.”

The ball is now in the player’s hands and Goodell hopes they'll run with it, declaring, “It’s time to get back to football.”
