Mar 02, 2015 at 12:44 pm by Bryan Barrett

Around 12:10 Monday afternoon (3/2/2015) Murfreesboro Police responded to a serious multi-vehicle crash on Memorial Boulevard near Airport Road.

Sergeant Kyle Evans told NewsRadio WGNS that after a preliminary investigation, it was determined that three vehicles had a red light and were all stopped at the traffic signal on the in-bound lanes (south) of Memorial at Airport Road.

A dump truck was also traveling inbound on Memorial when it slammed into the rear of a white GMC pickup, rolled onto the top of the small truck. The pickup was then allegedly pushed into two other vehicles that were also stopped at the red light: a four-door silver Nissan Altima, that was knocked into the grassy area between the sidewalk and fence in front of Adams Place, and a Chevy mini-van. A Nissan Frontier was the fifth vehicle. It was traveling outbound on Memorial and received minor damage from flying debris as it was turning left at the intersection.

Fatal Crash

The driver of the white small pickup truck died in the ER at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. NewsRadio WGNS is not releasing the person's name until we are certain the next of kin have been notified.

The driver of the 4-door silver Nissan Altima was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

The heavily traveled roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the city's FACT Team gathered evidence and conducted its investigation and for crews to remove the vehicles and debris.
