Here's a new scam for Rutherford County residents to look out for... A 46-year old Murfreesboro man called the police after receiving several phone calls from someone identifying themselves as Gary Jones with the Criminal Investigations Unit of the U.S. Department of Justice. The unknown man told the victim that he owes $1,236.45 to the Department of Justice. The culprit went on to state that if he fails to make the payment, he will be arrested.

Of course the call was a hoax and the reported victim did not fall for it. WGNS got a hold of the phone number that the call came from and called it back.

We did not leave a message, but we did get a return phone call...

So far, the subject who allegedly made the scam phone call has not been caught.
