La Vergne Alderman Dennis Waldron announced Saturday that he will add a property tax freeze for senior citizens to the next City Council agenda.

"The reason I haven't done this in the past is that the tax was so cheap," he said. "Now that it's doubled, I want to freeze it at 50 cents per $100 of assessed value. I'm hoping to back date this to the vote on the taxes in May."

Waldron said that while the state and county adopted a tax freeze about three years ago, the city never did.

"I want to see this passed so that our seniors can get some relief from this increase," he said, noting that all a senior will have to do is go to the city, prove they're a senior (65 and older) and the taxes will be what they have been in past years.
