Riverdale football coach Ron Aydelott was assaulted by a student this (Tuesday) morning and had to be taken to the ER. Rutherford County Sheriff's spokesman Det. Sgt. Dan Goodwin tells NewsRadio WGNS the male subject, a 17-year-old Riverdale High School junior, attacked and seriously injured the coach. He has now been charged with aggravated assault.

Goodwin says Aydelott was initially transported to St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital following the 10:15 a.m. attack. RCSO School Resource Officer James Coots arrested the student and transported him to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center. The 17-year-old will appear in Rutherford County Juvenile Court Wednesday at 1 p.m.
