A church building that was used by several congregations was destroyed by fire Thursday night. The structure at 599 Waldron Road in La Vergne was used by Amazing Grace Fellowship, Faith Life Church, and Life Victory Ministries.
Units from La Vergne Fire Department were on-the-scene within seconds, since the church is just down the street from the fire station. However, the structure was fully involved with flames shooting from the roof line when first responders arrived. The fire began shortly before 9:00 o'clock Thursday evening.
Firefighters from Smyrna were called to assist the La Vergne Fire Department in battling the major structure inferno.
Motorists traveling on I-24 reported seeing flames and heavy smoke as far away as three miles. Traffic along the interstate moved at a snail's pace while rubber-neckers crept along while watching the blaze.
La Vergne Fire Chief Rick McCormick said the roof of the structure totally collapsed at one point.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire that destroyed Faith Life Church in La Vergne.
