Kristina Maddux Named Discovery School Principal

Dr. Linda Gilbert, Director of Murfreesboro City Schools, is proud to announce the appointment of Kristina Maddux as Principal for Discovery School at Bellwood. Maddux will replace Dr. Linda Clark who retires in June 2015.

Maddux, a native of California, most recently served as Assistant Principal at Discovery School. Previously, Maddux served as the Assistant Principal of John Pittard Elementary and as the Coordinator of Instructional Effectiveness for Murfreesboro City Schools. Prior to entering the administrative field of education, Maddux was a third grade teacher at Scales Elementary and has over 11 years of classroom teaching experience.

Maddux received her Master of Science in Education Administration from MTSU as well as her Bachelors in Multi-Disciplinary Sciences 1st-8th Grade. Maddux is currently working on her endorsement for gifted.

"Kristina is an exemplary educator who models excellence. She has the qualifications, demeanor, and vision to lead Discovery into the future," says Dr. Linda Gilbert, Director of Schools.

Discovery School is an academic magnet school that continues to earn accolades and awards across the state. Teachers are encouraged to incorporate higher order thinking skills, problem solving, research and application to continuously challenge students academically.

"As I step away from Discovery School, I find great comfort in knowing that Kristina will be taking the position of principal. She has proven to be an asset to our district as she has positively impacted teachers and children," says Dr. Linda Clark. "I know the teachers, students and parents will embrace
Kristina as she takes the reigns for Discovery School."

Discovery School is located at 1165 Middle Tennessee Blvd. and boasts more than 400 students. Murfreesboro City Schools is a district of twelve schools committed to the academic and personal success of each child.
