Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland and City Councilman Eddie Smotherman give an update on the bridge over Broad and how most utility poles and lines along Broad Street have been removed. That project is slated for completion in 2018.

They also discuss the landfill issues and how it is estimated to be full within ten to fifteen years. Mayor McFarland notes he would not be surprised if it does not fill more quickly. He also touches on how other communities are burning waste and creating fuel, pointing to Lamar County, Georgia as a successful example. City officials will be meeting with Lamar County leaders to learn more about their program. Check: http://www.lamarcountyga.com/solidwaste.html

The mayor also discussed Murfreesboro's drinking water supply and waste water treatment, along with how this will serve this community in the future.

Other topics include Spring Fling, and progress of the new Joe B. Jackson bridge that is scheduled to open this month.
