A 26-year old Kingwood Drive man is another victim of identity theft. The man says he was contacted by letter back in December by a Smyrna company, saying he owed 15-hundred dollars. He says he contacted the company and they took care of it and took him off the loan.

Murfreesboro Police Officer Jody Johnson reports the victim thought the situation was over and didn't file a report at the time. That is, until he got another letter Thursday from the same company saying he owed 15-hundred dollars.
The victim was told by the company that they send out pre-approved checks and by cashing them, they agree to the terms of the loan. However, the victim told the officer he never cashed one of the checks.

It's always a good idea to immediately file a police report if you feel like your identity may have been stolen. It's also a good idea to not just throw away what you may consider junk mail and shred it. Someone could, like in this potential case, use pre-approved checks and leave you on the hook to pay it back.
