A Murfreesboro man was killed in a crash and fire on 840. Emergency crews were called to the scene near Sulpher Springs Road just before lunch Thursday. Rutherford County Fire Chief Larry Farley tells WGNS news the man's vehicle left the road in the westbound lanes of 840 at mile marker 57. The car hit a culvert, flipped on its top and then burned. He says the vehicle was burned beyond recognition. However, Farley says the person died in the crash of the vehicle and not because of the ensuing fire. The Rutherford County Fire and Rescue was joined by the county's Special Operations Unit and Emergency Medical Services in responding to the crash. It's being investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
