On Friday August 5, 2011 Officer Curtis Brinkley, assisted by Officer Mic Rea, Officer Tracey Womack, Officer Kristy Inglish, and Sergeant Chad Hershman arrested two juveniles for the theft of a vehicle belonging to National Guardsmen David Moffett.

On July 22, 2011 (the day Moffett deployed to Afghanistan with the 2030th Signal Company) Moffett reported his vehicle stolen to Murfreesboro Police.

The two (2) juveniles were spotted traveling in the stolen 2008 Dodge Avenger near Middle Tennessee Blvd. and Greenland Drive. The driver initially refused to stop for officers and when stopping, both juveniles ran from the officers on foot.

Both juveniles were caught after a short foot chase and a large knife was discovered on one of the juveniles. Both admitted to stealing the vehicle and to their involvement in gangs as partial motivation.

The juveniles were transported to Rutherford County Juvenile Detention. The driver is charged with Theft over $10,000, Felony Evading (by motor vehicle), and Evading Arrest (by foot). The passenger is charged with Theft over $10,000, Evading Arrest (by foot), and Possession of a Weapon.

The vehicle was turned over to the owner’s family on the scene.
