Annual Red Cross Barn Party Tops Successful Year

Aug 13, 2011 at 08:49 pm by Bryan Barrett

The annual Heart of Tennessee Red Barn Party helped to celebrate a banner year for the local Red Cross chapter. Womack Stables on Barfield Crescent Road rang with music from the Beatles played by the SixtyFour band.

Heart of Tennessee Chapter CEO Greg King was busy taking offers for the classic 1979 MGB convertible that was donated by Tom and Angie Bumpus of their local Harley Davidson dealership. And speaking of cars, Nissan had their electric Leaf at the event for everyone to sit-in and get a feel for this total non-gas powered vehicle.

WGNS' Bart Walker served as emcee, and he especially thanked Bob Mifflin and the Christy-Houston Fundation. "Once again they have enabled the Red Cross to better serve our community with a grant to purchase the new office at 501 Memorial Boulevard." He also gave a round of applause to CEO Brian Hercules and the staff at United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties for their continued support of the Red Cross.

King commented, "We are so appreciative of Jerry and Evelyn Benefield along with Ricky Womack for allowing us to use their beautiful facility. Also, Andy and Cherry Womack and the entire Womack family continue to do so much that helps the local Red Cross chapter throughout the year."

Jim'n Nick's Barbecue catered theevent, along with the DoubleTree Hotel's signature cookies,  and French's Boots furnished the boot centerpieces. Red Cross volunteers coordinating this year's barn party included Holly Lane-Adreon who was the chair, Jack Stevens was in charge of logistics, Haylee Wilbanks did a great job of decorating, Lisa Trail coordinated the food, Freda Morgan was in charge of the successful ticket sales, Chad Lane secured the music, and Dana and Lynn Womack handled facilities.
