On Saturday night (9/12/2015) the Corporate Flight Hangar at the Smyrna Airport was filled with the aroma of catfish, hush puppies and fries as the Rotary Club of Smyrna sponsored its most successful Wings of Freedom Fish Fry.
Record Year: $110,000
Past Club President and Assistant District Governor Ginny Williams gave NewsRadio WGNS the details . . .
(time 28-seconds)
Williams said the local civic club is very involved in making Smyrna even better. That's why they have started a Rotary grant. She encouraged public service groups to fill-out a grant request on their website: www.RotaryOfSmyrna.org.
As Williams noted, this year Vietnam Veterans were the special honored guests of the Smyrna Rotary Club.
In addition to the great food and music, the event also featured a huge antique car show with sleek aircraft in the background. It was a great opportunity for the public to see Tennessee's third largest airport. Only the International Airports in Nashville and the one in Memphis are larger. The Smyrna Airport was formerly Sewart Air Force Base and is a definite asset to Rutherford County.
