The inaugural 'Boro Art Crawl is set from 6:00 to 9:00 Friday night, October 9, 2015. Community individuals and organizations will come together that evening to create a fun and educational experience for all. It will feature some exciting emerging creative talent and a number of locally known artists. The event will also include musical performances and food at select locations.
"Art has the potential to unify. It can speak many languages without a translator. The arts do not discriminate. The arts can lift us up." So said former congresswoman Barbara Jordan. And she was so right.
Those attending will be able to make their way from Mayday Brewery to the Murfreesboro Art League in Cannonsburg Village, through many business in and around downtown Murfreesboro (which will be staying open late for the crawl), the gallery in the City Hall rotunda, and ending at MTSU where there will be displays in three locations, with a showing of short student films from the Department of Electronic Media.
"The Crawl gives our faculty and students a perfect opportunity to network within the art community of Murfreesboro, to exhibit, to interact, and to celebrate the best of our city. We're especially excited to be in a position to share this experience with our friends in the Department of Electronic Media. Our three galleries will be open, class work on display, and a number of student and faculty works presented throughout Todd Hall," said Eric Snyder, MTSU Todd Gallery Coordinator & Director.
The Crawl is the creation of a committee of artists, gallery owners, business owners, MTSU, Murfreesboro Parks & Recreation, and community organizers that formed from a larger group that met in August. The Crawl's major sponsor is Murfreesboro Downtown Business Alliance.
"We are excited to support the Murfreesboro Art Crawl," said MDBA President Jennifer Durand. "We anticipate it becoming a downtown ritual for people to enjoy for many years to come. It will be like a progressive treasure tour where cultural enthusiasts can go from venue to venue and discover interesting people, places and one of a kind finds!"
One of the benchmarks of a city's economic and cultural growth, art crawls provide a platform for creators to engage residents and visitors with works of locally produced art. The eclectic group of twenty-four organizations, galleries and businesses participating are: L&L Contractors, FunTiques, The Write Impression, Sugaree's, Let's Make Wine, Walnut House, Liquid Smoke, Cultivate Coworking, Hastings House B & B, Carriage Lane Inn, Dreaming in Color, The Nurture Nook Day Spa, Murfreesboro Massage Therapy, Two-Tone Gallery, Center for the Arts, Moxie, City Hall Rotunda, Murfreesboro Art League, Mayday Brewery, Top of the Block Salon, Studio 903, and on the MTSU Campus Todd artGallery in Todd Hall, Student Photo Gallery in the McFarland Building and Baldwin Photography Gallery in Bragg Mass Comm Building. The goal of the Boro Art Crawl is to bring patrons to the downtown Murfreesboro area, stimulate economic activity, and broaden the cultural opportunities of the community at-large.
