Leanna Burglars Charged

Aug 16, 2011 at 04:17 pm by Bryan Barrett

Two young burglary suspects were nabbed just moments after they apparently stole about $1,700 from a home Saturday morning on Leanna Road, a sheriff’s deputy reported. Suspect Blake A. Byrd, 18, of Fortress Boulevard and a 17-year-old Murfreesboro boy were charged with aggravated burglary of victim Joan Gentry’s home by Deputy Stephen Lewis. Byrd was also charged with possession of Schedule IV drugs after the narcotics were found in his car.

Lewis responded to a burglary call just before noon to Gentry’s home where he saw two males standing behind the residence. As Lewis approached, the males ran and one crossed a barbed wire fence. When Lewis ordered them to stop, Byrd complied but the juvenile hid in bushes until apprehended by Cpl. Ty Downing. Deputies recovered Gentry’s jewelry, computer and television from Byrd’s car, Lewis reported. Since the drugs were found in Byrd’s car, deputies seized his vehicle because it apparently was used for a felony.

Deputy Gene Thorpe transported the juvenile for an interview with a detective and Lewis took Byrd to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center for booking. He is being held on $15,000 bond. A hearing is set Oct. 3 in General Sessions Court.

The boy was booked in at Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center. His hearing was set Monday in Juvenile Court. Sheriff Robert F. Arnold said the deputies did a good job in arresting the suspects promptly. “People do feel very victimized by suspects breaking into their homes,” Arnold said. “They are scared. Knowing suspects have been caught gives victims a sense of peace and security.”
