LaVergne Spending Close to a Half Million Dollars on Sirens

The City of LaVergne has purchased 10 tornado warning sirens. The sirens will be installed throughout the city to alert residents when devastating weather is approaching. The system will first send out a tone alert followed by a voice alert warning of an approaching tornado. LaVergne residents can also sign up to receive a text warning on their phone. Each siren is solar powered.

The sirens are costing the City of LaVergne about $500-thousand dollars. The city will finance the cost over the next 12-years. The recently approved 100% property tax hike is helping to pay for the sirens.
