If you enjoy history, attend the Rutherford County Historical Society's Annual Banquet at 5:00 o'clock Saturday evening, November 14th, at Carriage Lane Reception House, 337 East Burton Street. Civil War historian and renown storyteller Barbara Marthal is the featured speaker that evening.
This popular Confederate historian will present the music and stories of the Civil War era, especially dealing with free and slave African-American women. As a member of the Tennessee Chapter of the Order of the Black Rose, Barbara is committed to what she refers to as her Southern Heritage.
Martha earned her undergraduate degree from Fisk and her Master's In Education from East Tennessee State University with an emphasis on story arts.
She his married Bill Harris, an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. She is active with the Tennessee Society Order of Confederate Rose and a member of the Confederate Belles of Tennessee. The couple enjoy attending events and sharing the history of their ancestors during the Civil War.
Historical Society Editor Susan Daniel told News Radio WGNS, "You don't have to be a member to attend the banquet. However, those who attend the dinner or any meeting have an opportunity to join."
