Veterans Day Parade at VA Medical Center Huge Success

Nov 14, 2015 at 12:25 pm by Bryan Barrett

The annual Veterans Day Parade took place at 11:00 o'clock Saturday morning, November 14, 2015, on the beautiful campus of Murfreesboro's Alvin C. York VA Medical Center. The theme was "A Grateful Nation Salutes Korean War Veterans".

Tennessee Valley Healthcare System Acting Director Suzanne Jene said her wish of "Don't rain on my parade" came true as she welcomed the visitors who lined the parade route and area in front of the administration building. She then shared some of the history of those who fought for freedom in the Korean War.

Then Chaplain Jennifer Lane gave the invocation that was followed by the singing of Our National Anthem.

This year's parade Grand Marshals included Donald Clark representing the US Army and Y. T. Vaughan with the US Air Force.

Then the parade began. It featured local JROTC groups from Blackman, LaVergne and Eagleville. A large delegation of Al Menah Shriners, clowns and motorcyclists participated.

Several Girl Scout and American Heritage Troops were in this year's Veterans Day Parade.

Beautiful cars from the Nashville Corvette Club as well as classic car group showed some good looking wheels.

In addition, Tom Shattuck rode his big wheel 1885 Penny Fathing bicycle. Bike of another mother roared past: Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 18-1 along with Rolling Thunder helped make this an outstanding conclusion to Veterans Week! Sunny skies and 58-degree temperatures didn't do badly either.

WGNS' Bart Walker served as the emcee, and he was able to share a little about the upcoming Murfreesboro Christmas Parade on December 13th.

A special thank you to the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System for putting together the 2015 Veterans Day Parade. It went totally around the York campus, so that veterans and their families, who were inside as well as outside, could enjoy the parade and tribute.
