Spread the Christmas spirit for 30 Rutherford County Schools' children by donating to the "Shop with the Sheriff" fund-raiser Tuesday, Dec. 1 at Toot's restaurants in Murfreesboro.
Sheriff Robert Arnold, School Resource Officers and other Sheriff's Office employees will accept donations from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the original Toot's on Broad Street and Toot's South on South Church Street. Sheriff Arnold, the SROs and employees will use the donations to take the children to breakfast and Christmas shopping Dec. 12.
"Many of the children buy presents for their brothers and sisters and parents before selecting anything for themselves," Sheriff Arnold said. "You truly experience the spirit of Christmas by watching the joy in these children's faces. We thank Toot's owner Wade Hays and his enthusiastic staff for their support."
Hays and Toot's has participated in the fund-raiser for several years.
"Providing help and happiness for needy children has always been the philanthropic focus for Toot's," Hays said.
Sheriff's Sgt. Jimmy Cassidy, who coordinates the event, said the "Shop with the Sheriff" event is heart-warming.
"Our goal is to provide Christmas for kids who otherwise would not have much of a Christmas," Sgt. Cassidy said. "It tugs at the heartstrings seeing these little children pick out presents for their siblings and parents. It's pretty incredible."
