The Murfreesboro City Council has set public hearing dates in regards to requests from the World Outreach Church to change the zoning of land along the New Salem Highway. The first of three public hearings has been set for the Murfreesboro City Council Chambers. It will be 7:00 o'clock Thursday night, September 22nd.
The church is asking that 24.9 acres of land on the north side of the New Salem Highway be changed to commercial highway land use. It is presently zoned residential single-family development.
World Outreach is also requesting that 5.9 acres on the south side of the New Salem Highway at Barfield Road, be changed to commercial highway. That location had been used as the church's administration facility, but those offices have been moved into the main body of the church during a massive expansion in recent years.
Changes of 52.2 acres on the north side of the New Salem Highway to RM-16 would allow 16 residences per acre. According to zoning policy, this would allow 541 apartment units.
