Oakland High School student receives a United States Naval Academy appointment

Oakland High School is proud to announce that International Baccalaureate student, Sean Lennon, has received a United States Naval Academy appointment. Sean is an honor student in the International Baccalaureate program at OHS.

Appointments are invitations to attend the Naval Academy. In a typical year, approximately 4,000 candidates receive nominations. However, only 1,500 appointments will be given out.

The United States Naval Academy is a four-year coeducational federal service academy in Annapolis, Maryland, United States. In 2014, the Academy had an acceptance rate of just 7.9%, which is one of the lowest acceptance rates in the U.S. In other words, just under 8 students out of every 100 who apply are actually accepted as students. The Academy was founded in 1845 and has an undergraduate enrollment of 4,511 students.

Graduates from the United States Naval Academy earn a Bachelor of Science degree and go on to serve in the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps.

United States Naval Academy's ranking in the 2016 edition of Best Colleges is National Liberal Arts Colleges is 9.
