Janet Hawkins prays for the person who killed her husband, Gregg, Oct. 16, 2015 at Mona Boat Ramp.
Her husband and their adult daughter were fishing when he apparently interrupted a vehicle burglary and was fatally shot in the parking lot. The murder remains unsolved.
During a press conference Friday on the eve of his birthday, Janet Hawkins said her husband would have given the killer anything except their daughter.
"You didn't give him a chance," she said. "If you had given him a half second, he would have helped you."
She appealed to the killer, saying the killer needs help.
"Everybody I know is praying for you," Hawkins said. "He would want us to pray for you."
She asked anyone with information about her husband's murder to contact Rutherford County Sheriff's Detective Kyle Norrod at 615-904-3043. People who want to give information anonymously may call Rutherford County Crime Stoppers at 615-893-STOP.
Hawkins thanked Gov. Bill Haslam who authorized a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer. Family and friends raised $40,000 more so the reward is a total of $50,000.
Detective Norrod said he knows someone has information about the killer. Persons of interest and leads were eliminated.
Detective Sgt. Dan Goodwin said he has worked several unsolved murder cases. People who "get away with murder" often kill again.
Hawkins told reporters she will observe her late husband's birthday with the visit to the cemetery.
"It's going to be hard," Hawkins said. "This is supposed to be Gregg's day."
