Massey, Vongphakdy, and Higgins Promoted to Sgt. at MPD

Congratulations to Detective Tommy Massey, Detective Abe Vongphakdy, and Officer Jason Higgins who have been promoted to the rank of sergeant with the Murfreesboro Police Department.

Tommy Massey

Sergeant Tommy Massey started his law enforcement career in 1997 as a Police Officer for the City of Murfreesboro. Since then, Massey has worked as a Field Training Officer and Detective in the Criminal Investigation Division. He was awarded the Crime Stoppers Officer of the Year in 2014 and has other commendations in his file.

Abe Vongphakdy

Sergeant Abe Vongphakdy began his career in 1999 as a Murfreesboro Police Officer. He served in Patrol and as a Detective in the Criminal Investigations Division where he received numerous commendations for investigations into bank robberies. He was also commended in 2005 for his off-duty efforts in a water rescue of a child at a local state park.

Jason Higgins

Sergeant Jason Higgins began his career with the MPD in 1998 and served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and a member of the Murfreesboro Police Alcohol Countermeasures Team (MPACT). In this capacity, Higgins has received numerous commendations including the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Hero Award and Gold Enforcement Award. He was also awarded the Governors Highway Safety Office Community Partnership Award in 2015.

Interim Chief Michael Bowen said, "I proudly congratulate these Sergeants on their promotion. Each will continue to play an important role in reducing crime and making a difference in the lives of the people we serve."
