Mar 11, 2016 at 08:15 pm by Bryan Barrett

The sixth annual Bald In The Boro took place Friday (3/11/2016) afternoon and evening at Lanes, Planes and Automobiles at 450 Butler Drive. Heads are shaved and approximately $40,000 was raised to benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation that does research to reduce childhood cancer.

Event Chairman Marshall Campbell told NewRadio WGNS . . .

The St. Baldrick's Foundation reports more children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease. Before they turn 20, about one in 300 boys and one in 333 girls will have cancer. Worldwide, a child is diagnosed every three minutes.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. Government.

Dr. Jeremy Harrison is a pediatrician with MMC and has been a leader for the Bald in the 'Boro events. "I do it every year! The work made possible by St. Baldrick's is something I'm truly passionate about," stated an eager Dr. Harrison. "It's hard to miss a bunch of shaved heads around town. It definitely makes people aware. Bald in the 'Boro is fun, easy, and way better than a marathon!"

Each year Bald in the 'Boro needs volunteers, donations, and people of all ages and walks of life to get their heads shaved. To learn more about the event, visit baldintheboro.com.
