SPECIAL KIDS RACE A Huge Success!

Saturday morning's 5th Annual Special Kids Race at the Murfreesboro Medical Clinic was a sold out event with over 3,200 walkers and runners.

The annual run celebrated a record-breaking year reaching its highest number of registrants in the 15K, 5K, and 1 Mile distances. The 15K and 5K stretched down Old Nashville Hwy and the 1 Mile looped around the Gateway Island behind the medical clinic. Several families served by Special Kids Therapy & Nursing Center were in attendance to participate in the event and give out finisher's medals.

34-year old Scott Wietecha came in #1 in the 15K race with a time of 27:49.

16-year old Brice Walkowski of Murfreesboro cross the finish line first in the 5K. His chip time was 17:03.

"We are so thankful for another great year at the Special Kids Race," said Ginger Spencer, director of marketing at Special Kids. "The race committee was thrilled to see the community come together for this day of celebrating the kids that has already raised over $206,000 to help the children."

Through its first four years, the Special Kids Race has raised a combined total of over $717,000 for the local nonprofit since 2012. Each of the years, sponsors have covered expenses for the event, allowing every dollar from registration to go towards providing therapy and nursing services at Special Kids.

The 5th Annual Special Kids Race was presented by its founding sponsor Murfreesboro Medical Clinic with platinum sponsor Max Shred. Gold Sponsors included New Vision Baptist Church, Tiffany Lane, Stewart's Special Events, Newk's Eatery, Ole South Properties, and Walker & Dunlop. Silver sponsors were Adams Place, A Step Ahead, Ascend Federal Credit Union, Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital, Stanlick Chiropractic, Fleet Feet Sports, Slick Pig BBQ, Smoothie King, Stones River Battlefield, Tam Clark DJ & Music Services, and Little Guys Movers. Special Kids is a Christian therapy and nursing center for children with special needs.
