The Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police held its 2011 Annual Awards Banquet in Memphis earlier this month. This year’s Legislative Award went to Senator Jim Tracy of District 16 in Bedford, Moore, and part of Rutherford counties. The award was presented to the state senator in recognition of his outstanding legislative service and for being an advocate for the law enforcement community and the citizens of his district, as well as the state.

Tracy accepted the award from TACP President, Retired Oak Ridge Chief David Beams who said, “His list of accomplishments are lengthy but he never forgets his roots and always weighs the concerns of the law enforcement community when confronted with legislative issues. Senator Tracy’s high level of involvement with the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police has produced a progressive, professional, productive team to promote and enhance the professional image of all law enforcement and to continue to protect the citizens and children of every community.”

“Senator Tracy has proven to be a strong supporter of law enforcement and has gone to the mat to protect the citizens he represents. That translates into safer communities not just in Middle Tennessee, but across the state. He is very worthy of this special recognition for his efforts. He shares the goals of the TACP, improving integrity through higher standards and ethical leadership,” incoming

President Union City Police Chief Joe Garner added.

TACP 1st Vice President and Murfreesboro Chief Glenn Chrisman commented, “Senator Tracy challenges us to become greater at what we do. He is a great friend of law enforcement. I could not think of a person more deserving than Senator Tracy to receive the 2011 TACP Legislative Award.”

The Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police was formed in 1970 as a professional organization dedicated to the highest ideals of honor, leadership, and integrity to maintain the respect and confidence of their government officials, subordinates, the public, and their fellow members of law enforcement leadership. The association works together to shape policy and provide executive level training to agencies statewide.
