Candidates planning on qualifying for positions in the August 4th general election here in Murfreesboro and Rutherford County, along with the state and federal primary races, have almost 3-weeks to turn-in their papers.
Here in Murfreesboro, there are 3 city council seats up for grab and 4 positions on the City School Board.
There are Rutherford County school board positions (zones 2, 3, 5, and 6) open, along with seats on the Rutherford County School board (zones 3. 5. and 6).
Candidates have until April 7, 2016 to get your qualifying papers completed and turned-in to the Rutherford County Election Commission.
On the state level, Rutherford County voters will be looking at State House of Representative positions in Districts 37, 48 and 49. In addition, the 16th District Tennessee Senate position.
On the federal level, the 4th District US House of Representatives seat will be up for grabs.
The state and federal races are "primary elections" this coming round, and local positions are "general elections". The county property assessor was unopposed in the last primary race and will not have opposition, so Rob Mitchell has basically been re-elected. The only county race with opposition last time was the Republican primary for road superintendent, no candidate ran in the Democratic column. and incumbent Greg Brooks retained that position.
So you can place this on your calendar, EARLY VOTING for this election will be July 15th through 30th, and election day is Thursday, August 4th.
