15th Annual Earth Day in 'Boro Set For April 23rd!

"Recycle, It''s Out Future' is the theme for the 15th Annual Earth Day Celebration around the Historic Rutherford County Courthouse on Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 10:00 that morning until 2:00 in the afternoon.

2016 Earth Day Committee Chair Amy Byers said, "We are excited to welcome even more vendors and participants to this year's 15th annual Celebration. Everyone understands how vital recycling is for our future, especially with the Middle Point Landfill nearing its end."

On display at this year's Celebration will be the winning Poster-Essays from the Murfreesboro and Rutherford County Schools 5th grade competition. More than 200 5th graders participated in the contest to demonstrate why "Recycle is our future" and is a part of responsible earth-friendly citizenship.

Activities for young and old alike will be available on the downtown square. Children can enjoy temporary tattooing, MED's mascot, Louie the Lightning Bug, General Mills local sustainable mascot, Mr. Wegs. Musical entertainment will be provided by Creative Rhythm at 1 p.m. and various bands from MTSU.
