Shortly after noon on Tuesday (4/12/2016), Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department responded to the Poplar Village Apartments at 1414 Poplar Avenue.

The first apparatus on the scene found a small fire in apartment A-5 in the area of a bathroom fan which had ignited a ceiling joist just above it. Districts 1, 4, 6 and Rescue 8 responded to a reported apartment fire.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and checked for extension by removing parts of the ceiling.

The tenant was home when the fan caught on fire and she smelled smoke.

Captain Summar said the "The quick call to 911, and the prompt actions of the firefighters kept the fire from spreading to other units!"

One tenant has been displaced until an electrician can inspect the damage. There were no injuries.
