La Vergne Police capture a rape suspect. With the help of Metro Nashville Police, 45-year old Herman Sowell, Jr was taken into custody. La Vergne Police Chief Mike Walker says a call came in to their dispatch at 7:14 Wednesday morning reporting the rape of a juvenile. The suspect fled in a green Nissan Xterra with no license plate. He says after an extensive search, officers converged on an area between Blue Hole Road and Old Hickory Boulevard. The police used electronic means to narrow down the area where the suspect was located. Sowell was captured after several hours of searching. Walker says the man has had an extensive arrest record with over 78 arrests in Tennessee alone, with at least 12 arrests in LaVergne. Why was the man still walking the streets? Walker says the court system decides who should be released and who serves time and this this is another example of the revolving door issues. Evidence is still being gathered and the investigation is continuing.  Multiple charges against Sowell will be filed.
