The Folk Paintings of Barbara Strawser and the tramp art and wood carvings of Daniel Strawser are on display now through October 24th in the Marly Berger Gallery at The Arts Center of Cannon County. This is at 1424 John Bragg Highway in neighboring Woodbury.  There is no admission to see this show, and the gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 each morning until 4:00 in the afternoon.

Barbara was born and raised inBerks County,Pennsylvaniasurrounded by the rich tradition of American Folk Art and the beautiful sites of the Pennsylvania Dutch countryside. Barbara is a country artist if there ever was one. She describes herself as a student of life, lover of the earth and all that lives and grows on it. She paints what she sees-the result is not necessarily how things look but rather how they look to her. Her favorite subjects are found on the farm and around her house and garden. She combines and blends country and fantasy with her unique personal perspective into wonderfully unsophisticated creations of color and harmony. Barbara loves life and considers herself a student of what we learn each day. It is easy to see why Barbara has developed such a widespread and enthusiastic following.

Her son is Murfreesboro folk artist Daniel Strawser, Jr. He creates unique carved designs from recycled objects. This fourth-generation Pennsylvania German folk artist transforms picture frames, boxes, wall pockets and even desks into works of art similar to the tramp art style of long ago. A sampling of his work is also on display in the joint exhibition with his mother Barbara now through October 24th in the Marly Berger Gallery at The Arts Center of Cannon County.
