Jul 26, 2016 at 09:00 am by Bryan Barrett

A man escaped from Moccasin Bend Mental Hospital in Chattanooga on Saturday. Chattanooga police said 33-year-old Brandon Robinson was on a law enforcement hold out of Bedford County with the Shelbyville Police Department.

Robinson was captured on Sunday morning in Monteagle, according to the Grundy County Sheriff's Office.

Officers responded to a call at McDonalds after a person reported someone had stolen their order straight off the counter. When officers arrived they encountered Robinson in the parking lot in a stolen vehicle. A struggle ensued and Robinson was taken into custody.

Moccasin Bend Mental Hospital offers 4 acute psychiatric care units and 2 long-term care units, comprising a total of 150 adult psychiatric beds. Hospitalizations are on a voluntary or involuntary basis, or patients can also be referred by the court system for pre-trial evaluations.

What Landed Robinson in Moccasin Bend?

The Shelbyville Times Gazette reported that Brandon Robinson, who is originally from Illinois, attempted to ride away on a horse after wrecking a stolen truck on White Road in eastern Bedford County on June 2, 2016.

Robinson was found and arrested a few minutes later, but not before struggling with deputy Garcia Jordan and Wartrace police chief Danny Odeneal.

Robinson wrecked a pickup truck stolen in Montgomery County (the Clarksville area) on June 2nd. A nearby resident called the sheriff's office after seeing Robinson walking around his home. Robinson claimed at that time he was waiting for a friend to pick him up after the accident.

Meanwhile, Robinson rode away on a spotted saddle horse/Tennessee walking horse (double-registered) valued at $10,000 after spotting it in a field. A neighbor of the owner said he saw Robinson riding the horse through his front yard. Robinson rode the horse to a cemetery on White Road and tied it to a tree, Jordan's report said.

"The horse is home and safe with minor injuries," the BCSO said.
