An arrest was made yesterday in a scheme that had one resident ordering a car to be towed, and reselling it to a local business for cash.

The long-suffering Dove Creek / Farmingdale neighborhood saw one of their own residents again charged with vehicle burglary and felony theft of property valued at more than $1,000.  Christopher Aaron Lewellen, age 19, was arrested by La Vergne police on Wednesday evening after having a 1996 Honda Accord towed from a neighbor’s driveway.

Lewellen called Cook’s Towing Company to bring the vehicle to Express Recyclers.  He claimed to have purchased it from a neighbor on Blake Moore Drive, so for $356 the business purchased it for scrap.  Upon investigation, the owner of the vehicle was identified and had not sold the automobile to Lewellen.

Upon Lewellen’s arrest, he was found in possession of synthetic cannabanoid.  Additionally, he had stolen three guns from his father and pawned two of them, resulting in a second charge of felony theft over $1000 and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm.

“Our officers continue to do their jobs by going into problem areas of the city where they are needed. They are searching out criminals and making arrests,” said Police Chief Mike Walker.  “The resident charged has had prior arrests in La Vergne for aggravated burglary and theft over a $1000.  Now we will wait on the judicial system to determine the final outcome of the case.”

Lewellen’s bond has been set at $60,000 by a Rutherford County magistrate.
