A Rutherford County Commissioner failed to pay his property taxes for almost a decade, but the mistake may be to blame on his mortgage lender. Doug Shaffer thought his taxes were being paid with his monthly loan payment as it was likely set up to do in the first place. Those payments to the county never happened. It will now be up to the county to decide how to collect back taxes that are now owed on the property.
