The ground breaking ceremony for a new mosque is today (Sept. 28, 2011). Reports indicate the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro has raised $963,000 to help cover the cost of their new mosque. Their goal is to raise $1.8-million dollars to pay for their 12,000 square foot mosque. Long term plans also call for classrooms and activity center. The first phase of construction should be complete by September of 2012. No word on when the second phase of construction will begin. The mosque is being built on Veals Road just outside the city limits of Murfreesboro.
