Hounds for Heart Dogs Invited to Rutherford Heart Walk

Sep 07, 2016 at 02:35 pm by Bryan Barrett

Dogs are welcome to the American Heart Association's Rutherford Heart Walk, which is less than two weeks away, on Saturday, September 17 at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital. Research shows that dog owners are 54 percent more likely to reach recommended levels of physical activity.

Over 1,000 Rutherford County residents are anticipated to enjoy the fun festival and non-competitive walk, to celebrate physical activity and heart health, and to raise funds for research, education and health programs. An invitation to the annual Rutherford Heart Walk is extended to all local dog owners and their pets.

To improve overall cardiovascular health, the American Heart Association advises that adults should get at least 150 minutes per week of moderate exercise or 75 minutes per week of vigorous exercise. For many, canine companions serve as a source of motivation to get moving.

Whether participating by foot or paw, attendees will unite as a community to fight the No.1 and No.5 health threats in Americans, heart disease and stroke.

Attendees bringing dogs should come prepared to clean up after their pets and have them on a leash during the event.
