Get your motor runnin' and join Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity in their 8th Annual Hammer Down for Habitat Poker Run on Saturday, September 24th.
Melissa Cross, who is the Director of Development, told WGNS...
The event starts at 8 a.m. in the Lowes Home Improvement Murfreesboro store parking lot, with a catered breakfast. Then the riders are off on a 109-mile run through scenic Tennessee countryside, to Center Hill Lake, then to Short Mountain Distillery and back to Murfreesboro at The Block Restaurant. Riders receive a poker hand at registration and additional playing cards along the route. Prizes for various best poker hands and other awards will be given after the run, plus entertainment and fun at The Block.
Tickets are $20 per motorcycle rider ($15 for pre-register), which includes breakfast, and $10 per passenger. Tickets are available at www.hammerdownforhabitat.com or at the event. Individual riders and groups are all invited. The public is also welcome to come see the bikes off at the start at Lowes or join the festivities at the end at The Block.
All money raised from the Hammer Down for Habitat event goes to a Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity house build. The 2015 Hammer Down event raised over $12,000 for the 2016 Home Builders Blitz, which included one house that was built in just three weeks and another completed after that. Country Music Star Alan Jackson helped dedicate the Home Builders Blitz house and officially handed over the keys to Habitat Homeowner Koesha. The 2014 Hammer Down raised over $15,000 which helped build a Habitat house in Murfreesboro for Justin, a young single father who is an Incomplete Quadriplegic. Many of the riders from the Hammer Down events also helped build those houses.
Platinum Sponsors for the 2016 Hammer Down for Habitat are General Mills, Fluor, Lowes Home Improvement, Lazer Spot Inc., Williams Mechanical LLC, and Gardner Construction.
Hammer Down for Habitat was founded by a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who are also passionate about volunteering in the community. The first events raised money for Neighborhood Revitalization critical home repair projects. Through company and individual sponsorships, the event now raises enough to co-sponsor a Habitat house every year.
