Driving on an expired tag led to sheriff’s sergeants solving a theft of about $2,000 worth of property from the International Paper plant early Tuesday, the supervisors reported.

Sgt. Trent Givens and Sgt. Tom Bunch recovered the property the same night it was taken from the Northwest Broad Street plant in Murfreesboro.

Givens stopped driver Kevin Lenhart for the expired license plate and noticed property stored in the back of his truck. Lenhart’s brother, Frank, accompanied him.

When Givens asked the driver about the property, Lenhart said he worked at International Paper, the items were scrap and employee Eric Parenteau gave him permission to take the items.

Bunch took photographs of the property and took the picture to three supervisors at the plant.

“All three supervisors advised that none of the subjects had permission to take the items,” Givens reported.

After interviews, Givens charged Kevin Lenhart, 24, of Morrison, Frank Lenhart, 29, of Bradyville and Parenteau, 31, of Bradyville with theft. They were booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center where a hearing was set Nov. 8 in General Sessions Court.
