Oct 05, 2011 at 04:50 pm by Bryan Barrett

Middle Tennessee men’s basketball head coach Kermit Davis will join forces with the Murfreesboro Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) for the Walk to Cure Diabetes on Saturday morning at the Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Davis will serve as the emcee for the event and members of the Blue Raider men’s basketball team will be on hand as honorary Grand Marshals during the walk.

“Finding a cure for juvenile type 1 diabetes is of immediate concern to thousands of young kids and their families across our country,” Davis said. “The walk to cure diabetes this Saturday in Murfreesboro is a great start to raising awareness and funds for research to help find that cure. I’m honored to be a part of the festivities on Saturday, and I know the JDRF staff is expecting a tremendous turnout for the walk.”

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at MTMC’s DePaul Building, while the one mile Family Fun Walk and three mile fitness route begin at 10 a.m. Over 750 walkers representing over 50 teams are expected to participate in this year’s walk.

There is no cost to attend, but walkers are asked to pre-register online and encouraged to raise funds for diabetes research. Attendees will receive complimentary breakfast from Panera, drinks from Pepsi and Sobe Lifewater, fruit and snacks. The Blue Raiders also will bring a mini basketball hoop for kids to enjoy. Before and after the walk, music will be provided by local folk rock group “Three Simple Rules” and the walk will be led by members of the Woodbury High School Marching Band.
