MTSU Offensive Coordinator Willie Simmons Resigns Effective Immediately

Middle Tennessee Director of Athletics Chris Massaro announced early Friday evening the resignation of offensive coordinator Willie Simmons effective immediately.

Following are statements from Massaro, Head Coach Rick Stockstill, and Simmons:

CHRIS MASSARO’S STATEMENT ON WILLIE SIMMONS’ RESIGNATION
“I support Willie’s decision and feel that his resignation is the best for all parties involved. His concentration and focus needs to be on resolving his personal issues and our efforts need to turn to the needs of our football program.”

HEAD COACH RICK STOCKSTILL STATEMENT ON WILLIE SIMMONS
“I would like to thank Willie for his service and effort that he has given to Middle Tennessee State University and this football program the last five years. I have known him since 1997 when I started recruiting him at Clemson University. He is like a son to me and I will continue to support him thru this difficult time in his life.”

WILLIE SIMMONS ON HIS RESIGNATION
“I have resigned my position as offensive coordinator and running backs coach effective immediately for personal reasons. I feel this is in the best interest for me and the athletic department at Middle Tennessee. I need to focus on my personal matters and allow Coach (Rick) Stockstill to begin the process of moving his team forward. I love those players and want to wish them well.”
