A woman by the name of Angela Buchanan will soon be sentenced to prison by a Rutherford County Judge for criminally negligent homicide and aggravated child neglect.
Buchanan worked as a baby sitter when an infant died that was in her care in 2014. That infant, 4-month-old Mekhi Cole, was in Buchanan's home day care facility on Fern Drive when the death occurred.
After the incident, Buchanan called the child's mother suggesting that they had been napping and when she awoke the child was face down. The child was rushed to St. Thomas Rutherford which is where the mother drove to see her toddler that was already deceased.
A jury found that Buchanan was guilty of criminally negligent homicide this past February. In court, Buchanan admitted to the use of Suboxone and Valium on the morning of the child's death.
Rutherford County District Attorney Jennings Jones stated...
34 Year old Buchanan will be sentenced on April 21, 2017 in the courtroom of Judge Royce Taylor.
